John Lennon var min bror, jag svär!

by Bengt Nyman

ABOUT THE BOOK

Erik should have kept the secret for himself. No one would ever believe that John Lennon actually has a younger brother in a small, Swedish town called Eksjö - hundreds of miles away from Liverpool.

And why didn't Erik reveal the big news before the Beatles' breakthrough? Erik gets beaten up by the towns rockabillies and his mod friends avoid him. His sisters officially declare him to be an idiot and his parents predicate endlessly about what it means to hit puberty. In the end all this is getting too much for Erik.

Some year later Erik wakes up at a mental institution. His psychiatrist Lennart shall help Erik to find the way back to the person he once was. Erik has to choose if he wants to join the journey and gain his freedom, or if he wants to stick to his story of being John Lennons brother and spend the rest of his life in the darkness of the institution.

Bengt Nymans debut novel is about a young man who very early experiences identity problems. "Who am I?" While his class mates slowly turn into adults, Erik can't control his life. He believes to have discovered to be someone else, that he doesn't fit in the Swedish small town idyll of Eksjö. He is John Lennons brother!

»It's incredibely fascinating to follow the story of Erik, a teenager on his way to become a mod - well, you know, letting his hair grow, and protesting against the war in Vietnam, only to end up in a mental institution in 1980.« Vetlanda Posten, July 07

»'John Lennon var min bror, jag svär!' is a truly fascinating novel.« Tranås Tidning, July 07
