Stjärnornas Fotograf - Bengt H. Malmqvist (with 8 postcards)
by Kenneth Ahlborn & Urban Nilmander
ABOUT THE BOOK
Since the beginning of 1950 almost all Swedish celebrities have posed in front of Bengt H. Malmqvists Hasselblad camera. It was him - "the music industry's private photographer" - who took pictures of Miles and Coltrane backstage at Konserthuset, of the very first Swedish rock 'n' roll stars between 1957 - 1958 and of long haired poppers Tages, Shanes and Mascots, who celebrated their biggest successes during the golden times of the Swedish schlager. Malmqvist photographed acts like Cornelis Vreeswijk and Fred Åkerström, Robert Broberg, Peps Persson, Pugh Rogefeldt, ABBA, Eva Dahlgren, Noice, Roxette and many many hundreds more, until the end of 1990.
This book features about 200 artist portraits, all selected on the bases of three criteria: photographic conciseness, time relevance and the artists meaning in cultural context.
Malmqvists pictures, from Ulla Sallert home at Gärdet 1952, to Roxette at a TV set 1987, are even 35 years later still outstanding! Furthermore they are an amazing time document for fashion and culture! Did Eva Dahlgren really look like this back in the days? Could anyone be cooler than the young musician Rock-Ragge, sitting on the floor of his studio in 1958?
"Stjärnornas Fotograf" is a fantastic coffetable book about the legendary photographer Bengt H. Malmqvist!
