Premium Select
A carefully selected music book that we at Premium Publishing put up for sale and would have been proud to have released ourselves. We can certainly recommend this title to our Premium customers!

by Carl Magnus Palm

ABBA ON RECORD tells the story of the group's record releases, but also takes a wider look at the group's presentation and how they were introduced to the world. The birth of the group name ABBA is examined in the detail, and the nature of the artist/manager relationship between the group and Stig Anderson is analysed. We gain insight into the challenges facing promotions people and the tactics they would employ to get ABBA's music played on the radio, including the Epic Records team dressing up as a wedding party to promote the I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do single. The book covers the rise and fall of ABBA's extraordinary popularity in Australia, along with their struggles in the United States, where the group never reached the stratospheric heights of countries such as Great Britain.

The discography part of ABBA On Record attempts to nail down the first release of every known alternate mix or anomaly in the ABBA catalouge, providing a complete overview of their musical output. The stories about the album sleeves go beyond describing the facts about the artwork to explain how designer Rune Söderqvist's background in advertising coloured has approach to ABBA's album covers. Exclusively for this book, Voyage designer Baillie Walsh also details the stories behind the design of the album and its singles.
