Today the opera experiences a new revival, and rising interest among the younger generations. In our book opera can now be seen from a new, exciting, visual and playful angle. All that illustrated with many amazing pictures full of passion, catastrophes and perfidious beauty!
This book portraits the opera with unique photographies of Mats Bäcker, a former rock photographer for the magazine Schlager, now praised by media and public in and outside Sweden for his photo exhibitions on opera, dans, theater and rock music.
In the book we present a selction of 30 operas which all have in common to have combined exciting stories with breathtaking music. Among these you will find some of the worlds most famous, such as "Carmen" and "The Magic Flute", the funniest, like "The Marriage of Figaro" and "Barberaren i Sevilla". We have also chosen some exciting experimental operas, like "Elektra" and "Den brinnande ängeln" ("The burning angel"). Of course, the book also features "Orfeus".
The pictures shown in the book are a selection of the very best shots of Mats Bäcker. During nine years he photographed all operas that were played at the Royal Opera house in Stockholm.
All texts are written by Ditte Feuk, who reveals the background of each and every opera, explains their meaninG and their musical characteristics. She also talks about the most spectacular operas that have ever been played! The chapters in the book stand alone and can be read in optional order.
The layout has been designed by Jan Larsson. Its ambition is to give the freh opera fan such as the well experienced expert a real kick into the colorful world of opera! With the book we want to try to reflect the overwhelming feeling one can experience at the very first time at the opera!
